These days, day after day, the news only exposes the worst that people are capable of doing to one another. It is enough to make even the most upbeat individual question whether or not they should believe in humanity.
In the midst of all of this gloom and doom, we would like to bring to your attention a story that will not only make you smile, but will also give you trust in humanity that you may have lost.
Like any other 20-year-old enjoying a night out, Daisy Owen was doing the same! She lost her purse among the night’s festivities. When Daisy understood what had occurred, she was inconsolably sad. Her purse contained her cash, her wallet, her IDs, her car keys, and her pricey new iPhone.
Daisy believed her bag would never be given back to her. She was confident that someone had taken it and almost immediately decided to leave home. But it turned out that this was not the case.
Outside a bar, a homeless man saw her bag and took it with him right away. He searched the bag for hints as to who might have possessed it and found Daisy’s ID. He made a quiet promise to himself that he would find the owner of the bag.
However, Paul was also aware of what it appeared to an outsider—a homeless man carrying a woman’s bag. In order to prevent anyone from suspecting that he had stolen the bag, he drafted a three-page note explaining the circumstance.
In his note, he described how he discovered the bag and his desire to return it to its rightful owner. He added that he didn’t tell anyone he was in possession of the bag since doing so would make it appear as though he had stolen it. The fact that doing the right thing made him feel so happy was his sole driving force in returning the bag to Daisy.
He then traveled throughout town asking people whether they knew Daisy Owen. He kept the bag a secret since he didn’t want anyone to mistakenly claim it as their own.
He had been pacing the area in search of Daisy for more than a day. He finally made the risky decision to walk to her home address to return the bag to her after exhausting all other options.
He stumbled upon one of Daisy’s pals as he was about to set off for her house. The buddy introduced themselves as being acquainted with Daisy Owens and then informed her over Facebook that her bag had been located.
Daisy was quite relieved when she learned the news. But she was also very shocked. Paul, a homeless man who barely had enough money for eat and lived in a hostel, had vowed to track her down and give her bag back.
He might have simply sold her possessions and taken the cash from her pocketbook for his own enjoyment.
Daisy said: “If I was in that position then I would have sold all of the stuff to improve my life – but Paul didn’t. My faith has genuinely been restored in humanity – it’s amazing. He was still going hungry and on the streets even though he had my £10 note in the bag.”
Paul’s integrity and commitment to returning the bag to its owner touched Daisy. She made the decision to assist Paul in regaining control of his life. She organized a fundraiser to provide Paul with a place to live permanently, warm clothing, and food.
She started a GoFundMe campaign, which earned over $5,000 and probably helped Paul a lot to organize his life.
